On our face we have different types of wrinkles that appear. They are given various face lines names. Wrinkles between the eyebrows are called frown lines. They are called this as they are formed when we frown or bring our eyebrows together. As we age these lines are the first to appear and make us look older. In this post we would write about botox for wrinkles between eyebrows and see if it is effective in dealing with them. We will also investigate on the reasons why we have eyebrows in between our eyes.

Can botox fix wrinkles between eyebrows?

Botox is an effective treatment for wrinkles between eyebrows. This is because botox works by paralyzing the area where it is injected. Now the injected muscles can’t contract. Since one of the prime reasons for wrinkles between eyebrows is frowning, these wrinkles will now become less visible.

Causes of wrinkles between eyebrows

As mentioned above one of the reason for wrinkles is the frequent frowning. These type of wrinkles which are formed due to repetitive facial expressions are called dynamic wrinkles. As we age our skin loses volume and these wrinkles become static. Loss of collagen production in our body due to age is another reason why we get wrinkles between eyebrows.

Other reasons for frown lines is exposure to the suns UV rays, cigarette smoking, consumption of alcohol, lack of sleep, stress and wrong dietary habits. Now since we know the cause and why botox for wrinkles between eyebrows is such an effective treatment option let’s see how it works.

Botox treatment procedure

First of all choose your doctor carefully. With botox choosing the right area to inject the injection is very important, so choosing the right doctor is very important. Ask for reference form your primary doctor or conduct a research on the doctor on the internet.

You will need to tell your doctor if you have had the botox injection in the last four months. If you are taking blood thinners then you will need to stop taking them several days before the treatment.

Before the injection your doctor will clean the area between your eyebrows and apply a topical anaesthesia. This will numb this area.

The doctor will then inject tiny amounts of botulinum toxin. Your doctor will ask you to move your muscles to find the optimum area to inject the injection. You will feel a pinching sensation and no pain.

You must not rub the area between your eyebrows for the next 48 hours or so to prevent the toxin from spreading to other parts of your body.  Avoid drinking alcohol for the next 24 hours. Avoid any facial massages, exfoliating scrubs and face exercises for 24 hours.

You will start to see the effects of these injections in a few days’ time and they will last for around four months. So you will need to repeat the procedure after four months.

You can return to work straight after the procedure.

Side effects of botox for wrinkles between eyebrows

As mentioned above you need to conduct a proper study on the doctor you choose. This is because of the side effects. Botox is an extremely safe treatment procedure when done by a proper doctor.

You will experience swelling and redness between your eyebrows. There will also be flu like symptoms and headaches.

If the botox spread to your eyes then you may experience drooping eyelids or eyebrows, dry eyes or overactive tear ducts.

There are some serious symptoms of botox injections. These are slurred speech, trouble breathing or swallowing, weak muscles, loss of bladder control and unclear vision. You will need to contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of these.

How many units of botox for frown lines?

On average 15 to 20 units of botox is recommended for frown lines. This is because the muscles here are very strong. So more units of botox is needed to combat these lines. If your frown lines are deeper then you may need more units of botox.

Depending upon the type of botox a single unit of botox will cost anywhere between 10 to 20 US dollars. So you will need 150 to 400 hundred dollars for the treatment. This cost will have to be repeated every four months as the effects of botox will start to fade at this time.

In conclusion

Botox for wrinkles between eyebrows is a good treatment option. This is because botox works for wrinkles formed by repetitive movements of the facial muscles. Since these wrinkles are formed due to frowning, botox is the best treatment option for them.
