Does waxing cause wrinkles?

If you have hair on your face especially your upper lips then waxing is the best technique to remove such hair. The greatest advantage of waxing is that it is long lasting as it extracts the hair from below its surface.

As a result the hair manages to detach from its follicle. But there is a myth surrounding waxing, that it causes wrinkles. This myth is common among thirty year olds as the signs of aging like wrinkles and saggy skin start to develop during this time.

Does waxing cause wrinkles? The simple answer is no. Waxing doesn’t cause wrinkles. There are many other reasons for the formation of wrinkles and saggy skin.

But waxing has some other side effects. First of all waxing is quite painful. This is true as the hair is being pulled off. But luckily it hurts most for the first time. For some people the pain is similar to having a tattoo for the first time.

Waxing can result in temporary bumps on your face. This occur on the pores where the hair is removed. But these are temporary in nature and will go away in a few hours after waxing.

Waxing also can result in redness and irritation. Just after waxing your skin will become pink or red and will be very sensitive. But this will go in a days’ time.

At times you may get a rash which can last for a few days. If this happens then stop using the product immediately especially if the rash is severe.

Now if you want to minimize the side effects of waxing then it is best to get it done from a beautician. This may cost some money but you will have a healthier complexion.

Causes of wrinkles

Since waxing doesn’t cause wrinkles feel free to wax the hair of your face. This way you will look better.

The reason for formation of different types of wrinkles on face are very different. Collagen is a protein that is responsible to keep your skin firm. As a person ages there is a drop in the production of collagen. This becomes evident when a person enters their thirties.

Wrinkles will be formed and your skin will become saggy. This doesn’t happen due to waxing but due to drop in collagen levels in your skin. So age is the primary cause for wrinkles.

Another reason for formation of wrinkles are the suns UV rays. These rays create free radicals in our skin. These free radicals damage the collagen in our skin which as mentioned above will result in saggy skin and wrinkles.

Repetitive facial expressions like squinting and pursing your lips also result in wrinkles. But this wrinkles are initially dynamic in nature, which means they will go once you stop making the expression. They will become static wrinkles as you age.

So when you smoke you purse your lips. Hence smoking causes wrinkles. Smoking also creates free radical in your body which then damage collagen.

Finally stress is another cause of wrinkles. Stress releases the hormone cortisol which also is known to damage collagen.
