Benefits of moisturizing dry skin

Moisturizers can provide many benefits for dry skin. Moisturizers form a protective barrier that locks moisture. This will keep your skin hydrated during the cold winter. Dry skin tends to be itchy and uncomfortable. Applying moisturizers will help to soothe and calm irritated skin, thereby providing relief from itching and irritation.

Moisturizers have a substance called emollients that can help to improve the texture of the skin. Your skin will soften, making it look and feel more supple and youthful.

Now that we know the benefits of moisturizing dry skin it is time to know the benefits of moisturizing skin during winters.

Why use moisturizer in the winters?

Using moisturizer during winters is very important. This is because the cold, dry air can strip the skin of its natural oils. This will in turn lead to dryness, itching and irritation. Moisturizers can help to combat these effects by hydrating the skin. They can also form a protective barrier that locks in moisture.
Mentioned below are specific reasons why using a moisturizer during winter is important.

The cold dry air can dehydrate the skin. The cold dry air that is present during winters can pull moisture out of the skin. This will leave the skin dry and cracked. Applying moisturizer during winters can help to hydrate the skin and keep it healthy.

During the winters the humidity levels inside many buildings is often low. This can result in dry skin. Moisturizers can add moisture to the skin and counteract the effects of low humidity.

Cold weather can cause irritation and itching of the skin. This is true for people who have skin conditions or eczema. Moisturizers can sooth and calm the irritated skin. So using moisturizers during winters can reduce irritation and itching of skin.

During the winter we tend to take part in lots of winter activities. Some of these activities are skiing, snowboarding and ice-skating. Now these are outdoor activities which can dry out the skin due to wind and cold water. Moisturizer’s can help to protect the skin from the effects of such activities.

Therefore by using a moisturizer during winters you can help to keep your skin hydrated, healthy and protected from the harsh winter condition. This is especially true of dry skin.
